Description
Bird’s-nest bungalows on stilts are the whole point here: high in the trees, wrapped in jungle, with wide views towards Kantiang Bay. The better rooms add a balcony bathtub and sun loungers, which is a fairly strong argument for postponing whatever plan involved leaving the room.
Monkeys turn up on the terraces in the morning, birds work the canopy all day, and sunset lands nicely over the restaurant and pool. This is hillside accommodation, not beachfront accommodation; the beach and Why Not Bar sit about eight minutes downhill on foot.
The rooms are new, spacious and properly air-conditioned, with a distinctive timber-and-thatch look that avoids the usual beige-box resort problem. Breakfast can be sent to the bungalow, though it is a basic eggs, toast and coffee affair. Eat a fuller breakfast nearby and keep the balcony for coffee, monkey-watching and pretending you meant to wake up early.
There are plenty of stairs between the cabins, pool, restaurant and reception. Anyone with limited mobility should choose somewhere flatter. Book a higher bungalow with the balcony tub: the treetop view is the feature worth paying for.
