Five minutes from Saladan Pier, Lanta Chaolay is built for ferry mornings, dive departures and a soft landing after the Krabi crossing. Private rooms and dorm beds sit in a new, compact building on a quiet street, with restaurants, shops and massage places close enough to make planning dinner a non-event.
The rooms get the practical bits right: strong air-conditioning, proper bedside tables, shelves, good lighting and comfortable beds. Bathrooms have hot water, shower gel, shampoo and hairdryers, while the free water refill by the entrance saves a few plastic bottles from joining the island’s long-term population.
Dorms are spacious and cool, and the balcony is a decent perch for a beer before wandering into Saladan. Groups fit comfortably here, but it is not a beach resort base; the island’s southern beaches and national park need a scooter.
No breakfast is served, which barely matters with inexpensive local restaurants beside the building. Book a private room for a calm stopover, or take a dorm bed before an early boat – the pier is close enough to keep luggage wheels from becoming an endurance sport.
