Fresh House
Description
Waves lap beneath the wooden rooms at Fresh House, and the sunrise from the pontoon is the sort that makes an alarm worthwhile. This is Old Town sleeping, not beach-resort sleeping: timber walls, sea views and a shared deck facing the water.
Book an air-conditioned seafront room, especially F4, for the full over-water view, hammock and deckchairs. The larger rooms have proper space, big bathrooms and traditional wooden furniture, with daily cleaning keeping the old-house character from becoming archaeology.
Old Town’s restaurants, shops and scooter rentals sit a few minutes away on foot. There is no bar or restaurant on site, which is fine because the over-water places nearby have dinner handled; Pintos is a strong call.
Avoid the budget fan room. It runs hot at night, the mosquito net blocks the fan’s reach, and its position by reception brings road noise into the equation. Fresh House suits travellers who want a distinctive wooden stay and can live without a beach outside the door; the nearest sand needs a scooter ride.
