At Pier Hostel
Description
The sea sits right outside this wooden hostel by Saladan Pier, with sunrise in the morning and a proper open-water view from the beach side. It is built for the night before a ferry, not for disappearing into a hammock for a fortnight.
Rooms are new, simple and clean, with air conditioning or fan options, private lockers and satellite TV. Wi-Fi holds up well, and the shared kitchen has a fridge, hot and cold water, plus free coffee, tea and toast. A remarkably civilised setup for a backpacker bed.
Saladan town is close enough for dinner without arranging a military expedition, and restaurants cluster around the pier. The place stays quiet despite being near the transport hub, which is useful when the boat leaves at an hour designed by sadists.
Budget travellers and solo ferry-hoppers will get the most from it. Pay for the sea view if it is available; the wooden waterfront setting is the whole point here.
