Thung Yee Peng Pier
Description
The mangrove channels at Thung Yee Peng Pier are Koh Lanta’s antidote to another afternoon under a beach umbrella. Rent a kayak and paddle beneath tangled roots, past jumping fish and birds, with monkeys often stationed along the banks.
The narrow side waterways are easy to muddle up, so stick to the wider route unless you enjoy turning a peaceful paddle into an orienteering exam. A private longtail ride gives you an hour through the forest with less navigation required.
The short concrete loop takes about ten minutes and threads directly through the mangroves. It is small, but useful for anyone short on time, travelling with children, or unwilling to commit to a paddleboard-based expedition.
Coffee, simple food and a little market sit beside the pier, while archerfish feeding keeps kids occupied between boat trips. Go early for the quietest water and bird activity; after dark the river is pitch black, so bioluminescent plankton trips need a headlamp and company.
