Wax lines, bright dye and a sarong carrying your own questionable artistic decisions – Sriraya Batik Class turns an afternoon into something far better than another fridge magnet. Adul guides the batik process from sketch to paint, with enough help to stop detailed designs becoming a tropical crime scene.
Bring a rough design idea, even a phone image or scribble. You can draw it yourself, use a stencil, or have Adul help shape the outline before the wax goes on. Sarongs are the big-ticket canvas, with smaller fabric pieces and T-shirts also available for less ambitious masterpieces.
Children can make their own artwork with help on the first drawing, while adults get room to attempt something more elaborate than a palm tree and a sunset. Adul leaves space for your own choices, so it feels like making batik.
The class takes several hours and finished batik is collected later, so plan it early in your stay. The workshop sits a fair distance from the busier beach roads, and the shaded work area still gets hot; arrive by scooter or tuk-tuk with water and a design already in mind.
