Khlong Mak Pier
Description
Khlong Mak Pier is the working vehicle-ferry link between Koh Lanta Noi and the mainland, with roll-on, roll-off boats carrying cars, minibuses, motorbikes and bicycles across the channel. The crossing itself is short, and the useful bit is that you stay with your vehicle.
Motorcycles use the left-side booth near the jetty. Cars buy tickets at the drive-through booth before joining the vehicle queue, so do not park up and wander about looking for a passenger terminal. There is no grand terminal building – just lanes, ramps, engines and a faint sense that Thailand has solved transport with ramps.
Morning crossings are the sensible choice. Vehicle lines build through the day, especially around weekends and holiday traffic, and the wait can outlast the ride by a heroic margin. On board, there is a toilet and small food-and-drink stalls near the pier for supplies before the crossing.
This is transport, not an excursion, but it is the cleanest route for self-drivers heading between Krabi and Koh Lanta. Keep your window down near the ramp: the view across the mangrove-fringed channel is the last mainland postcard before the island roads begin.
