Saychon Lanta Batik
Description
Wax lines, dye pots and a blank sarong are the whole afternoon at Saychon Lanta Batik. You sketch your idea, trace it onto fabric, apply hot wax around the shapes, then paint the colour in yourself. The result goes home as something wearable, not another magnet destined for a drawer.
Saychon guides the tricky bits without hijacking the design. Complete beginners do well here, including children old enough to handle a pencil and sit with a project for a few hours. The studio has a calm, family-run feel, plus several cats conducting their own entirely unqualified inspection process.
Sarongs are the popular canvas, though handmade shirts, shawls and accessories are also worth a look. Saychon makes bold wearable pieces, including shirts with large illustrated figures across the back.
The studio sits away from the busier beach strips, so arrange the transfer. Finished fabric needs time to dry and be completed, so leave room in your Koh Lanta schedule for collection or delivery.
