Mai Kaew Cave Trekking Tour
Description
Ladders, narrow limestone slots and a proper jungle approach put Mai Kaew Cave firmly in adventure territory. This is not a cave for sandals, white shorts or anyone hoping to admire geology from a safe tiled walkway.
The route starts through forest and climbs a steep hillside before the cave narrows into crawling sections and slippery rock. Bats, spiders and lizards are part of the set dressing, along with the occasional monkey outside. The chambers reward the effort with rough, dramatic limestone.
Rak and Noon know the route through passages that would otherwise become a very expensive lesson in navigation. Headlamps are provided, and the guides explain the cave as they go without turning it into a school excursion.
Wear closed shoes with grip, clothes you do not mind muddying, and bring mosquito repellent for the walk in. The Thai food at the entrance restaurant is worth planning around, particularly after two hours of squeezing through rock while bats mind their own business.
