Lanta Elephant Sanctuary
Description
Three rescued elephants, bananas by the armful, and a mud bath that leaves everyone looking faintly prehistoric. Lanta Elephant Sanctuary runs close-contact sessions where you feed, touch, scrub and wash the elephants, with time to hear each animal’s story before getting near them.
The full experience builds from feeding into mud spa territory, then a wash in the small pond. Showers are on site afterwards, which is reassuring because the mud takes its work seriously. One elephant is blind and particularly keen on bananas.
Book direct through WhatsApp if plans move around, and use the arranged hotel transport. The sessions suit anyone who wants hands-on elephant time, not a distant viewing platform or a quick photo stop.
The strongest part is the education before the contact: these are working elephants in retirement, and the guides explain their histories without turning the morning into a lecture. Bring a change of clothes for the pond; the mud bath is not a decorative smear on the wrist.
