Description

Three kilometres of sand, sunset bars and a noticeably quieter stretch once you head south: Klong Nin is the beach for settling in, not ticking off before lunch. The northern end has the larger run of beachfront restaurants and cocktails, with enough space between tables that dinner doesn’t become a public meeting.

Swimming is good on calm days, and the sea drops off faster than Long Beach. Rocks sit beneath parts of the waterline, especially toward the southern end, so keep footwear on and watch the tide. Stronger waves turn the shallows into a poor place for a casual float.

The beach itself is wide and mostly soft underfoot, with limited natural shade. Bring an umbrella or claim a seat at one of the bars before the late-afternoon sun starts behaving like it owns the place.

Sunset is Klong Nin’s proper trick. Phi Phi can sit on the horizon, the Andaman goes orange, then pink, then purple, and the southern stretch stays calm enough for a long barefoot walk after dinner.
