Klong Khong Beach
Description
Low tide turns Klong Khong into a broad, rocky tidal flat, with coral shelves and pools where the sea was a few hours earlier. Time the water properly and it is swimmable; arrive for sunset expecting a dip and you will be negotiating rocks in wet clothes, which is a very specific holiday look.
The beach runs long and loose, backed by low-key bars, restaurants, massage huts and scattered shade from the trees. It has more places to stop than Long Beach, without the neat resort-strip feeling. Sandy feet, a cold drink and a sunset table are the point here.
Aquashoes belong in the bag. The rocky shallows are good for poking about at marine life and shell hunting, including plenty of sea glass, but they do not reward bare-footed optimism.
Sunset is Klong Khong’s proper show. Rocks rise from the receding water, the horizon stays wide open, and the beach bars light up without turning the whole coast into a nightclub.
