Khlong Dao Beach
Description
Khlong Dao’s flat sand and shallow, calm water make it Koh Lanta’s best beach for small children, nervous swimmers and long barefoot walks. At low tide, the sea pulls back a long way, leaving room for beach volleyball, morning runs and tiny crabs conducting important tiny-crab business.
The northern end feels more open; the southern stretch has more places to eat with feet in the sand. Jai Tiki at the far end is the useful stop for vegan food, while the beachfront strip covers dinner, drinks, massages and basic supplies without requiring a scooter expedition.
Sunset is the daily show here, best watched from the sand with enough distance from the restaurant lights. February brings a fuller beach, but it still has room to spread out. Shade is scarce, so a hat or your own umbrella is not optional equipment.
Rainy-season swimming needs more attention: jellyfish and bluebottles turn up in the water, and the beach can collect washed-up debris. The seabed stays sandy and gently shelving, with no rocky obstacle course waiting under the surface.
