Khlong Chak Waterfall
Description
The bat cave sits a few minutes beyond the waterfall, and it is the better reason to lace up shoes for Khlong Chak. Small bats hang inside the dark limestone pocket, while the jungle track delivers monkeys, butterflies, lizards and enough spider architecture to keep your eyes off your phone.
The waterfall is modest, especially in the dry months, with a natural pool below it and no swimming. Treat it as the endpoint of a proper jungle walk, not Niagara in miniature. The trail crosses the stream several times, turns muddy after rain and has uneven, slick sections underfoot.
A guide changes the walk from green corridor to wildlife safari. They spot tarantula burrows, scorpions, snakes and flying lemurs that are otherwise busy being extremely good at camouflage. Ask at the parking area before heading down the track.
The national park ticket also covers Mu Koh Lanta National Park, so keep it with you if you are pairing the waterfall with the lighthouse and southern beach. The dirt approach road develops deep puddles after rain; scooters handle it, provided their rider has not confused confidence with traction.
