The fleet leans toward older, well-kept Nissans, Toyotas and a Toyota RAV4. They are proper island cars with working air-con, room for beach gear and enough ground clearance confidence for the rougher southern roads. A child seat is available, which makes this far more useful than balancing a toddler between luggage and optimism.
A car changes the island completely. Drive down to Old Town for lunch, take the coastal road to Kantiang Bay, stop at Mu Ko Lanta National Park, then leave whenever you please. Motorbikes suit short hops; a car wins once rain arrives or bags, children and snorkelling kit enter the equation.
Confirm the exact vehicle before arranging collection. Availability can be limited, so the car on hand may be the car you take – a small island has only so many Toyotas hiding in cupboards.
