Ban Sri Raya
Description
The giant lobster at the new pier is Ban Sri Raya’s loudest landmark, which is useful because the old town itself prefers timber shutters, narrow lanes and a slower pulse. Start there, then follow the waterfront through the century-old trading settlement.
Chinese merchants once used this coast as a monsoon shelter and charcoal stop on the Penang route. That history still sits in the wooden shop-houses and sea-facing homes, without being turned into a theme park with a gift-shop soundtrack.
A statue of the revered father figure draws those coming to pay respects, while an old sea gypsy house offers a close look at traditional island life. Give both the time they need; this end of Lanta is about looking closely, not collecting attractions at speed.
Ban Sri Raya rewards a late-afternoon wander before the light drops behind the eastern coast. The lobster pier is the obvious photo stop, but the weathered waterfront houses are the reason to keep walking.
