Lanta Wooden House
Description
Hammocks on shaded bungalow terraces are the point here, with banana trees, chickens and the occasional monkey supplying the morning soundtrack. The rooms sit back from the main road, so the traffic stays elsewhere where it belongs.
The better bungalows feel more like small self-catering homes than hotel rooms. Expect a proper bed, air conditioning, fridge, table, chairs and a compact kitchen setup with pans, stove, dishes and cutlery. That kitchen matters on longer stays, especially after a market run.
Beach, restaurants, cafes and 7-Eleven are an easy walk away, while the grounds stay leafy and quiet. The terrace has enough space for coffee, a book, or yoga before breakfast. Monkeys turn up around the property, which is excellent until one develops opinions about your fruit.
Lanta Wooden House suits independent travellers who want space, greenery and a base in the middle of the island without resort theatre. Pick a bungalow with the kitchen if you are staying more than a few nights; it changes the whole rhythm of the place.
