Lanta Sabai Day House
Description
One sea-facing room puts you over the water in Old Town, with a hanging net, terrace chairs and sunrise straight across the mangroves. At high tide, the sea runs beneath the stilts, which is far more persuasive than most alarm clocks.
There are only three rooms, keeping the place quiet and compact. Air conditioning, a fridge and private bathrooms cover the basics; a shared area has a microwave, hot water and coffee. The sea room is the one to book – the corridor rooms face the lane and have sliding doors.
Old Town’s wooden shopfronts, cafés and restaurants are a short walk away, while scooters, laundry and island trips can be arranged on site. This suits solo travelers and couples who want a low-key base near Old Town, not beach resort life; the nearest sand is nowhere near the front door.
The terrace earns its reputation at dawn, but its best trick is the tide coming in under the floorboards while you sit above it with coffee.
