Round porthole windows, waves slapping beneath the floorboards, and a broad terrace over the water give Lanta Harbour Hotel its proper character. The larger family rooms lean into the ship-cabin idea, with four beds and enough novelty to keep children staring at the windows.
The building has a loft-like, art-filled look. Sea-facing rooms catch sunrise, birdsong takes over in the morning, and the shared kitchen has a water view for anyone making coffee or reheating market food.
Koh Lanta Old Town is close enough for seafood dinners, cafés and the pier, though the final approach is down a quiet lane. A scooter is useful for 7-Eleven runs and exploring the east coast. Cookie can arrange scooters, buses and island trips, which removes some of the faff from onward travel.
Book a sea-facing room for the terrace and tide sounds; inland rooms are darker and miss the point. The shoreline is for watching at low tide, while high tide brings the water right back under the house.
