Beanbags in the sand, a cold drink in hand, and the Klong Nin sunset directly in front of you – Big Bang Bar has picked the right side of the road. The beach seats are the prize, especially as the sky starts performing its nightly expensive-colours routine.
Rit knows the cocktail list, with the Piña Colada, Banana Colada and Coconut Cooler all landing well in the heat. The Malibu Pineapple is another solid shout, while imported wines give non-rum drinkers somewhere to go. Music stays relaxed enough for a conversation, then live sets and fire shows occasionally turn the evening up a notch.
Food comes from the restaurant next door, so treat Big Bang as the drinking base camp and use the neighbouring kitchen when hunger becomes less theoretical. Bang, Jo and Lek are the names to know around here, and Chun the bar dog has the sort of beach-side confidence money cannot buy.
This is Klong Nin for sunset drinks, not a late-night nightclub with lasers and existential regret. Grab a beach seat early; the view from the low beanbags is the whole point.
