Fire House Bar-BQ
Description
Northern Thai barbecue is the point here: sai ua, beef tenderloin and a sharp, garlicky barbecue sauce with enough chilli to keep your drink company. The beef arrives properly tender, and the garlic fried rice is the right supporting act, not a mound of starch sent to fill the silence.
Khai luk khoei – son-in-law eggs – land sweet, crisp and spicy, while the corn fritters and Khao Soi give the menu more character than the standard beach-bar greatest hits. “Thailand in One Bite” is worth ordering for anyone tired of choosing between ten things and ending up with two plates of fried disappointment.
The front tables sit close to the sand with the Andaman straight ahead, and sunset is the obvious booking. Sofas suit long cocktails; tables suit dinner. The Mekong Sour, Pineapple Daiquiri, Tuesday Morning Since 2017 and Tom Yum Margarita all have enough personality to survive the view (which is doing plenty of work itself).
Fire House Bar-BQ charges beach-sunset money, so treat it as a proper dinner and drinks stop. Ask for Nish behind the bar; the mango daiquiri is a persuasive argument for lingering after the sun has clocked off.
