Southern Lanta Resort
Description
Klong Dao beach is the whole point here: bungalows sit close enough to the sand that a pre-breakfast sea walk requires very little ambition. Southern Lanta spreads across a large beachfront plot, with three pools, plenty of loungers and enough space for children to orbit without turning the place into a school excursion.
Book a beachfront bungalow for the proper version of the stay. The family suites and two-bedroom apartments are spacious, though they sit further back; Deluxe rooms get access to a separate pool. Rooms are quiet, air-conditioned and built for settling in over several nights, not posing beside a minibar.
Coco Loco bar earns a stop for its coconut cocktails, particularly the Coco Loco, and the restaurant handles simple beach-holiday food at sensible prices. Breakfast is broad but repetitive, with fruit, fried eggs and omelettes doing most of the useful work.
The resort grounds are set back from the main road, which keeps the nights calm. Klong Dao’s strip outside is full of tourist businesses, so hire a scooter for the rest of the island; Saladan and the south coast are where Koh Lanta stops looking like it has been designed by a souvenir rack.
