Ocean View Resort
Description
V9 and V10 are the rooms to book here: both face straight onto Khlong Dao Beach, with the sunset doing its nightly thing beyond the palms. The rest of the resort sits in a compact, leafy garden, so the pool, beach chairs and Koala Bar are all within a very short stroll.
Families do well here because the big trees create proper daytime shade around the grounds. The pool sits close to the sand, while the sea is a few steps farther out at low tide. Koala Bar at the beach edge is the right place for a sundowner, particularly once the longtail boats have packed up their visual noise.
Accommodation splits between garden bungalows and rooms in the main building. Bungalows feel more in keeping with the setting; main-building rooms are basic, air-conditioned and have balconies, fridges and hot showers. Pick an upper-floor room for more light, since the ground-floor rooms are noticeably dim.
Khlong Dao’s restaurants and small shops are close by, and Saladan is reachable on foot along the beachfront. Ocean View suits a quiet beach week, young children and anyone who values shade over polished concrete design. The bathroom doorways are low enough to punish tall people with surprising enthusiasm.
