Malee Highlands
Description
Four pools, a waterslide, padel, beach volleyball and a kids’ play area turn Malee Highlands into Koh Lanta’s answer to the question, “What if the resort did not require leaving the grounds?” Families can fill several days here without inventing elaborate scooter missions in the midday heat.
The apartments are built for proper stays, not suitcase acrobatics. Expect full kitchens, washing machines, roomy layouts and balconies, with some units facing sunset over the island while others sit closer to the kids’ pool and reception. The two-storey family apartments are particularly useful for larger groups, with three double beds and enough kitchen kit to make breakfast less theatrical.
Up at the restaurant, Swedish meatballs sit alongside Thai dishes, western plates and sunset drinks on the terrace. The hilltop setting looks across jungle, beaches and the island’s spine; monkeys occasionally occupy the forest behind the apartments, presumably checking whether anyone left fruit unattended.
Padel is the sporting draw, with an indoor court, plus pickleball, boule and beach volleyball nearby. The pickleball court has no shade or lights, so play early or accept that the tropical sun has entered the match as an unseeded opponent.
