Hammocks, coconut trees and a short sandy lane put Community Guesthouse within a minute of Long Beach. The garden is the real draw: rustic, leafy and full of birds, with chickens pottering around as though they own the lease.
Accommodation ranges from simple bungalows to tents and bare-bones fan rooms. Expect mosquito nets, power sockets and little else in the cheapest rooms; this is budget island living, not a boutique escape with towel origami.
David runs the place with a deliberately social house feel, and the common area makes it easy to meet other travellers without being trapped in an organised fun programme. Long Beach bars, restaurants and small shops sit close by, while the garden stays quieter than the road.
Pick a bungalow if sleep matters in the heat. The basic rooms run hot after dark, and the open windows are part of the cooling plan, along with a fan and the island’s traditional electrical technology.
The nearest working ATM is not right by the guesthouse, so sort cash before settling into the garden.
