Fatty the resident cat occupies reception with the confidence of a creature who knows the building belongs to him. Happiness Hostel is a small, quiet base near Long Beach, with a sociable common area for meeting fellow travellers without turning every night into a wristband event.
Dorm beds have curtains, room for your kit, and notably soft mattress toppers. Private rooms are simple and comfortable, while air conditioning, free drinking water, coffee, and small daily snacks cover the unglamorous bits that matter after a ferry day.
Atom runs the place with a personal touch, and can arrange motorbike rental, transport, and laundry. The supermarket across the road is useful, and Long Beach, dive shops, cafés, restaurants, and bicycle rental sit close by.
This suits solo travellers who want a calm hostel with enough conversation available on demand. The common sitting area cannot be accessed outside reception hours, so don’t plan on using it as a midnight laptop bunker. Fatty is often waiting near reception, which is excellent news unless cat allergies have already drafted your travel plans.
