Khao soi with the depth of northern Thailand, a bacon-cheese sandwich built for repeat offences, and a mango-passionfruit shake blended with homemade yoghurt: Villa Lila’s bistro is far more serious than a poolside menu has any right to be.
The infinity pool sits above the road in a tidy garden, with submerged loungers for the sort of afternoon that mysteriously absorbs three hours. Non-residents can use the pool, bar and gym when capacity allows, so don’t treat it as a guaranteed day pass during busy periods.
Studios and larger apartments are set up for longer stays, with proper kitchens, big beds, desks, strong internet and enough living space to avoid conducting your holiday from the edge of a mattress. The private villa spreads across three floors with large bathrooms and several places to disappear from your travelling companions.
Villa Lila is up a hill, a short walk from the main road and beach, which buys it quiet nights and green views. Digital nomads, gym regulars and families staying a week or more will get far more from it than fly-and-flop resort hunters; the gym has a rack, not just two lonely dumbbells and a motivational poster.
