Lanta Lapaya Resort
Description
Private bungalow-style rooms, a proper pool and a short walk to the beach give Lanta Lapaya more breathing room than the roadside hotels around Klong Khong. The larger lodges have a separate sitting area, balcony, big bedroom and enough floor space for a longer stay without living out of a damp backpack.
Breakfast comes from a menu, with filling plates and enough choice to avoid the same egg-shaped morning for a week. The pool is the centre of the grounds, clean, quiet and especially useful after an afternoon on the road when Koh Lanta has baked your helmet into a small oven.
The beach is about five to ten minutes on foot, with shops and restaurants close by. Sunset is visible from the resort, though the sand is not at the doorstep. Rent a scooter here or arrange island transport, because the useful bits of Lanta are spread out with the planning discipline of a dropped box of matches.
Pick a lodge nearer the pool for the easiest walk to breakfast and swimming. The farthest row sits up the small hill, so it feels more tucked away but adds a few more steps in the heat.
