Zareena Restaurant
Description
Crispy Penang curry, grilled squid and prawns are the reason Zareena has a steady pull in Kantiang. The curry arrives properly fragrant and rich, while the seafood keeps its char and doesn’t disappear under sweet sauce.
Pad Thai is the safest bet on the menu, especially the fried tofu version, with enough tamarind bite to avoid the usual sugary noodles trap. Green curry with roti is another strong call, and the curry roti makes a serious lunch after the ride down from Bamboo Beach.
The place sits across from 7-Eleven, a short walk from Kantiang Bay, with simple tables beside the main road. Road noise comes included, free of charge, because civilisation has apparently decided scooters require an audience.
Portions are generous for a cheap local stop, and the menu stretches from omelette rice and pineapple chicken fried rice to smoothies and mango sticky rice. Leave the pasta alone and stay in the Thai section; Zareena’s fried large noodles and seafood dishes have far more to say.
