View&Diew Restaurant
Description
Panang curry, pad Thai wrapped in egg, and a coconut shake thick enough to count as lunch are the reasons to stop at View&Diew. The Thai cooking is the point here: fragrant curries, properly punchy pad kra pao, papaya salad, Massaman curry, fried basil, and fried morning glory all land far better than the western detours.
The cashew nut stir-fry is a strong vegetarian pick, while spring rolls and small noodle soup cover the lighter end of the menu. Mango sticky rice finishes things properly, and the mango shake has enough fruit in it to make other shakes look like they have been through customs.
It is a small roadside family restaurant, with simple tables, fans, and mini Connect Four waiting on some of them. There is fruit put down at the start, which is a pleasingly civilised way to begin dinner on a hot island.
Stick to Thai dishes and drinks. The hot-pan prawns arrive still sizzling, but the kitchen can slow down when the tables fill; this is food cooked dish by dish, not a race against a stopwatch.
