Description

Green curry chicken roti rolls and the braised pork knuckle are the orders that separate Veedvew from Klong Dao’s long parade of beach tables. The pork arrives soft, crisp-edged and properly meaty, with sauces that do more than decorate the plate. Crispy pork with kale also deserves repeat business.

Curries are the strength here. Go for the yellow soft-shell crab curry, Penang chicken, massaman, or steamed seafood curry in coconut. Chicken satay, papaya salad with minced shrimp and pad Thai hold up well, while a cold coconut or smoothie fits the sand-floor setting.

Beachfront tables face the Andaman, with sunset doing its dependable nightly trick. Reserve ahead for a table nearest the water in high season; Klong Dao has many dinner options, but few cook Thai curries with this much intent. The neighbouring bar’s music carries over after dark, which saves everyone the burden of making conversation for several consecutive hours.

Prices sit above the island’s simplest roadside Thai restaurants, and the portions reward ordering a proper spread. Finish with the chocolate brownie if dessert has somehow survived the curries.
