Description

Scrap-wood staircases, platforms and corners climb through the trees at U-Rho, a handmade east-coast restaurant with more character than most of the island’s polished beach strips. The father-and-son build has the pleasing logic of a treehouse designed by someone who kept finding another useful branch.

Green curry is the plate to chase: a large, rich bowl with enough substance for two light eaters. The papaya salad brings proper heat and crunch, while prawn curry arrives loaded with prawns.

Wooden puzzles, board games and traditional games occupy the slower hours, so this suits a long lunch better than a rushed refuel between beaches. The setting is rural and leafy, with roadside traffic audible beside the trees.

U-Rho sits on Koh Lanta’s quieter east side, well away from the Saladan-to-Klong Dao parade. Go for the hand-built setting and Thai curry, then stay put with a wooden puzzle until the road noise becomes part of the soundtrack.
