The Sol Cafe & Bar
Description
Purple Haze with peanut butter is the smoothie to get here: thick, cold and substantial enough to delay lunch by an hour. The mango version has the same full-fruit punch, while the coffee holds its own beside the island’s better breakfast stops.
German sourdough gives the toast menu more purpose than the usual beach-bar bread situation. Go for avocado toast with scrambled eggs, pan con tomate, Caprese toast or the egg scramble; pesto spaghetti and bolognese cover the later-afternoon hunger. Pancakes are large, fluffy and entirely unashamed of becoming brunch dessert.
The Sol sits directly on Relax Bay, facing the distant Bida and Phi Phi islands. Beanbags, hammocks, sunbeds and UV umbrellas spread across a small, quiet stretch of sand, with shaded tables for laptops and long lunches. The indie and alternative playlist avoids the standard island soundtrack, which is a public service.
Stay through sunset for a passion-fruit mojito or a cold beer. Food takes its time, so settle into the shade.
