The Frog Restaurant Wine Bar & Garden
Description
Pork ribs with a proper glaze, grilled steak and creamy mushroom spaghetti give The Frog more ambition than the average Saladan dinner stop. The grilled menu is the safe bet, with pork tenderloin and garlic prawns also pulling their weight.
The front near the pier looks almost suspiciously quiet. Upstairs and out back, the place opens into a leafy courtyard with covered tables and a garden built for lingering over a bottle of wine. It is a useful reminder that Saladan occasionally keeps its better rooms behind the plumbing.
Thai food is not an afterthought here. The tofu green curry lands as a full dinner, and the kitchen also does shrimp gambas, mozzarella plates and prawn salad with more care than necessary for somewhere this close to the ferry traffic.
Dinner costs more than the island’s plastic-chair staples, and portions are not built for heroic appetites. Save the Big Bad Burger for another day; ribs, steak and pasta are the reason to book a garden table in high season.
