Tamarind Cuisine
Description
Spicy chicken with herbs, Penang curry and mango sticky rice give Tamarind Cuisine far more pull than its scruffy roadside frontage suggests. The cooking leans big on familiar Thai comfort dishes, with enough heat in the som tam to wake up a scooter battery.
Massaman curry is the safer curry pick, rich and mild, while the Penang has more punch. Pad See Ew, pineapple fried rice and garlic pepper chicken are dependable lunch territory. The chicken satay and spring rolls cover the fried-snack requirement without turning dinner into a beige engineering project.
The menu is huge: Thai classics, seafood, tofu dishes, curries, shakes and beer. Portions run small, so hungry diners should plan on a starter or an extra plate.
There are plenty of tables, including room for bigger groups, and the fast internet makes it useful for a long lunch with a laptop. The specials board out front is worth reading before opening the full menu; mango sticky rice is the proper finish here.
