Description

Seafood big noodles, hot-pan chicken with cashew, and a tom yum kung with proper depth put Star near the top of Sala Dan’s waterfront strip. The Thai menu is huge, yet the strongest choices are the direct ones: panang with roti, pad Thai, fried rice, spicy mango salad with prawns, and squid with chilli paste.

Tables sit over the water beside the pier, looking across the harbour. Daytime is best for the view; after dark, it becomes a breezy dinner spot with lights on the water and a lot less to photograph.

Ask for Thai spicy if that is your normal setting. The default heat arrives with its shoes off and speaks quietly. The masaman curry roti set benefits from at least medium spice, while the young coconut, mango smoothie and banana smoothie do useful work against the chilli.

Star handles groups well and portions land at the sensible end of generous. Breakfast is the weak chapter, so save the appetite for lunch or dinner and take a waterside table over the harbour.
