Description
Panang curry arrives rich, nutty and properly thick at this Klong Khong beachfront spot. Pad Thai is the other safe bet, with enough balance to avoid the standard syrupy orange tangle. Grab a front table and the Andaman Sea becomes part of dinner, which is a better use of a sunset than photographing a cocktail for evidence.
The deep-fried chicken with lime sauce brings crisp skin and a sharp citrus kick. Soft-shell crab is worth a look, while the red curry carries proper heat and depth. Vegetarians should not settle for plain fried rice here: the tofu khao soi has a full, creamy curry broth, and the vegetarian phad kra pao comes with deep-fried holy basil.
Breakfast is stronger than most beach-road fry-ups. The full English has homemade hash browns and real sausages, while the berry smoothie is thick enough to count as breakfast’s sensible cousin. Big Thai plates also cover lunch without requiring a lie-down in the sand afterwards.
Souls Of Sea occupies the old Patty’s Secret Garden location, right on Klong Khong Beach. Chill music and occasional live music suit a long dinner, but the food deserves the journey even after the sun has clocked off.
