Sonya Restaurant & Guesthouse
Description
Hello Gorgeous is the breakfast to remember here: a large yoghurt-and-fruit bowl built for Koh Lanta mornings, with the Monkey on Island shake beside it. The Killer Bowl, banana pancakes and avocado toast keep the menu from becoming a one-dish operation, which is more than can be said for half the island’s breakfast boards.
Eggs arrive properly poached, coffee has bite, and the kitchen handles vegetarian and vegan swaps without turning the plate into a bowl of apology lettuce. Pad Thai is another strong call, while the fruit platter is large enough to make a sensible person reconsider lunch.
The guesthouse sits a short walk from Klong Khong Beach, with bungalows in a leafy garden and rooms fitted with air-con, fan and fridge. It is a useful base for a longer stay: shops, laundries, bars and food are close, and the restaurant doubles as a decent laptop perch.
Sonya suits travellers who like their accommodation modest, central and attached to a breakfast worth leaving bed for. Bagheera the cat patrols the garden with the calm authority of someone who owns several properties.
