Sole Mare
Description
The wood-fired pizzas carry Sole Mare: thin, crisp bases, properly melted cheese and toppings that don’t slide off in a greasy landslide. Frutti di Mare, quattro stagioni with extra eggplant, and the seafood pizza are the sensible picks when Thai food has had a very successful week.
The pasta is homemade, with truffle tagliatelle, truffle ravioli and gnocchi giving the kitchen its best second act. Carbonara and cream-based sauces are less dependable, so save the appetite for dough, tomato, mozzarella and the fiery oil on the table.
Start with bruschetta or the antipasto board, then leave room for tiramisu or a banana split with hazelnut or chocolate-chip ice cream. The room is simple and spacious, closer to a practical dinner stop than a candlelit Italian drama (the pizza oven has enough theatre).
Sole Mare costs more than a roadside Thai meal, but the ingredients and pizza oven justify treating it as a proper dinner. Bring cash; there is no card machine, and that fact has ended more than one ambitious Negroni plan.
