Description
Four beach-volley courts, two pools, padel, football and a ping-pong room turn Slow Down into Koh Lanta’s answer to sitting still very badly. The beach out front is shallow and firm underfoot, with enough room for children and volleyball players to coexist without starting a minor border dispute.
The restaurant leans Scandinavian and Western, with Thai dishes alongside it. The mozzarella burger is the order, fruit shakes hold up in the heat, and the shrimp platter for two is built for a long lunch. Poke bowls next door cover the lighter end of the menu, while the wine list is far less tragic than island wine often is.
Rooms and shared areas are clean, fresh and arranged around the sports-and-pool routine. Long-stay Swedish regulars give the place a social, clubby feel, especially around the courts and beach sofas. Anyone hunting silent seclusion should pick somewhere with fewer volleyballs in the air.
Padel court two has a good playing surface and net, though the enclosed court runs hot and loose balls can escape into the surrounding universe. Slow Down suits an active holiday built around swims, matches, burgers and an afternoon that accidentally becomes dinner.
