Second Home Restaurant
Description
Barracuda in chilli sauce, butterflied king prawns with garlic butter, and whole grilled fish are the reason to pull up a chair here. Second Home sits directly on Long Beach, with sand underfoot and the Andaman doing its sunset routine a few metres away.
The seafood is the strong suit. Get the market fish in Panang curry or garlic chilli sauce, then add stir-fried morning glory and mango sticky rice. BBQ squid and tiger prawns arrive with the sort of freshness that makes menus elsewhere look needlessly theoretical.
Thai curries hold their own against the fish. The chicken Panang is rich without becoming a coconut-based hostage situation, while Massaman curry and Pad Thai make this a sound choice even if you have temporarily exhausted your enthusiasm for shells.
It is a small, low-key beach restaurant under the trees, not one of Long Beach’s neon-and-speaker operations. Bring cash, settle in before sunset, and keep an eye on the barracuda when it appears on the fresh-fish selection.
