Description
Whole grilled tuna, snapper and squid are the reason to stop at Sea Shell, parked directly on the sand with sunset in full view. The fish comes off the barbecue with that clean, just-caught flavour that makes every inland seafood display seem faintly theatrical.
Pick a shaded table or one of the low beach beds on the covered deck, then settle in with a lemon shake, a pina colada or a happy-hour cocktail. Morning glory and pineapple with coconut give the Thai side of the menu more purpose than the generic beach-bar filler.
Stick to the grill. Barbecued fish with potatoes is the strongest call here, particularly at dusk, while Thai curries, pizza and spring rolls are not why this kitchen deserves your evening.
Sea Shell also has bungalows behind the beach and Nee’s massage nearby, so it fits neatly into a slow day around Freedom Bar and the southern beach strip. The fire show crowd gathers nearby after dark; this deck remains the better place to sit with a cold drink and watch the sky do its expensive little colour change.
