Description
Real espresso, European-bread sandwiches and a banana pancake that doesn’t arrive looking like a regrettable pancake experiment. Sala Café sits just back from Saladan pier, far enough from the ferry churn to hear the wind chimes.
Breakfast is its strongest card: omelettes, fruit salad, muesli with mixed fruit and yoghurt, toast, fluffy pancakes and proper cappuccinos. The fruit plate is generous, and the mango-passionfruit smoothie has more purpose than most drinks with two fruits in the title.
Don’t write it off as a Western breakfast stop. Pad kra pao comes with proper heat if requested, pad Thai can be made vegetarian, and there are enough meat-free options to avoid the usual fried-rice hostage situation. Oat milk, gluten-free food and iced lemon green tea broaden the appeal without turning the menu into a spreadsheet.
The room is small, calm and unfussy, with background music, reading material and a cat maintaining low-level supervision. It suits a slow morning near the port, a coffee between ferries, or an afternoon laptop session where nobody expects you to purchase twelve coconuts for the privilege.
