Description

The west-coast sunset from Sabai Sabai arrives over a thick sweep of jungle canopy, with hammock seats aimed squarely at the sky. This hilltop lounge earns the climb for that view alone, particularly once the light starts dropping behind the sea.

Thai food has more purpose here than merely filling the gap between cocktails. Get the tofu with lemongrass and garlic, made vegan on request, or go for panang curry, papaya salad and pad kra pao. Mango sticky rice is the closer – sweet, rich and entirely unsuitable for anyone pretending dinner was a sensible decision.

Cocktails, cold drinks and a decent wine by the glass fit the slow pace, while the soundtrack avoids the usual beach-bar audio punishment. Lunch is the quiet window, with the same long view and far less competition for the hammocks.

Sunset tables fill up, and booking ahead is not optional if you want the front row. Leave shoes at the entrance, bring cash, and treat the steep approach with respect; the walk up is short but has no interest in negotiating with flip-flops.
