Description

The cliff-edge tables look straight over the beach, with the late-afternoon sun doing most of the interior design. Richard Restaurant is the stop for iced coffee, fresh juice and mango sticky rice with a sea view that swallows the horizon.

The beef fried rice arrives with a fried egg on top and has the most dependable food case here. Thai salads come seriously hot, including for anyone who considers chilli a hobby. There are no alcoholic drinks, so settle in with juice, coffee or something cold without expecting sunset beers.

The road in is part of the outing: coastal bends, big views and a proper sense that you have wandered off the island’s main restaurant circuit. Aim for the tables facing the water before sunset; the beach below can feel remarkably empty.

Treat the kitchen as secondary to the perch. Mango sticky rice and iced coffee make more sense here than a full-scale Thai-food expedition, and the view is doing a great deal of the lifting (fortunately it is extremely good at it).
