Description

Pad Thai, shrimp parang curry and barbecue chicken are the reasons to stop at this low-key shack on Bamboo Beach. The fried rice holds its own too, and the coconuts come straight from the trees behind the kitchen.

Tables sit under shade beside a quiet bay near the southern end of Koh Lanta, shortly before Mu Ko Lanta National Park. Swim, dry off, drink Thai tea, and watch the water without a row of beach clubs auditioning for your attention.

Sunbeds are available for a cheap day on the sand, with fruit platters, cold drinks and simple Thai plates within arm’s reach. The black dog has the alert expression of a creature who has seen monkeys make poor choices.

Mango sticky rice is not the order here. Stick to the hot savoury food, grab a shaded table after a beach swim, and give yourself time to stay longer than planned.
