PloyPalin Restaurant
Description
Morning glory, papaya salad and mataba are the smart picks at PloyPalin, a tiny Thai place perched above Kantiang Bay. The portions run large for the money, and the kitchen is strongest with Thai food and seafood.
Banana Thai pancakes with a coconut shake make a fine breakfast before the bay heats up. Later, the two cliff-edge seats are the prized sunset spots, with the sea directly below and a cool breeze through the sala. Sixteen seats means the room feels more like a lookout than a restaurant – gravity has been asked to do some ambitious work here.
The setting is gloriously rough around the edges, with construction and scrub nearby. That is part of the deal; the view over Kantiang Bay is the point, and it lands hardest around sunset.
Stick to the Thai menu: spicy papaya salad, morning glory, mataba and seafood. The western dishes are a waste of a cliffside table.
