Pinto Restaurant
Description
Pomelo salad with tofu, chilli-and-lime bass, and lemongrass prawns are the reasons Pinto fills up in Lanta Old Town. The seafood comes into its own here, especially steamed fish, grilled prawns and soft-shell crab with rice.
Tables stretch over the water, with mangroves and the Old Town shoreline doing more work than most restaurant interiors ever manage. The vintage wooden room has charm, though afternoon heat settles in hard. Sunset seats are the prize, naturally.
The menu is broad enough for a mixed group without becoming a telephone directory. Khao soi chicken, duck red curry, clear tom yum and spicy yellow noodles all hold their ground, while tofu substitutions and a vegetarian menu save non-seafood eaters from a sad plate of rice.
Drinks need a firm sugar instruction, especially the herbal teas and milk tea. Fresh coconut is the safe bet, and the mango sticky rice is better left unfried – fruit has endured enough during its short life.
