Description
Kantiang Bay spreads out below the tables here, with the Andaman filling the rest of the frame. Arrive about half an hour before sunset for daylight over the bay, the sun dropping, then the first lights after dark.
Panang chicken curry is the safest bet from the Thai side of the menu, alongside pad Thai and green curry fried chicken. Mango sticky rice, fresh coconut and Thai iced tea fit the setting far better than a rushed burger-and-pasta decision.
The restaurant sits uphill, so the walk from Kantiang Beach is a proper climb. Mopeds can park near the entrance, which saves the legs for more important work – namely sitting still and staring at the bay.
No alcohol is sold here, and the setup is simple: plastic chairs, open air, a broad terrace facing west. Phu Pha earns its place for sunset and a cheap Thai meal with Kantiang Bay laid out below it.
