Description

Affogato with coconut ice cream, a proper iced latte, and a mushroom burger with far more flavour than its modest little menu suggests. Not A Toy Cafe sits near the pier down a side street, making it a smart pause before a ferry or after arriving with bags and questionable patience.

The room is packed wall to wall with the owner’s carvings, recycled bits, toys, postcards and artwork. Nothing matches, which is precisely the point. Jazz drifts through the café while every shelf offers another object to inspect.

Breakfast is the strongest play here. Granola arrives with fresh fruit, French toast gets cinnamon, and the peanut butter, banana and honey sandwich comes on brown bread. The muesli is good too, while the curry and natural-ingredient Pad Thai give the short food list some Thai backbone.

Coffee is the serious business: machine-made espresso drinks, hot mocha, Thai coffee, and that coconut affogato. Grab an outside table if one is free; the pier-side traffic fades quickly, while the artwork remains gloriously incapable of fading into the background.
